In 2012, Melissa completed her secondary school education and then attended Bury College until 2014, where she studied Business, Psychology, Photography, and English Literature. In July 2014, she secured an apprenticeship at a Fire Sprinkler company as a receptionist. By April 2015, Melissa transitioned into contract administration, where she was tasked with updating a complex paper-based quality management system to a streamlined electronic system compliant with ISO 9001, successfully passing the audit with no findings.
Melissa’s career progressed as she moved into a quality control role, which involved conducting numerous internal audits, managing prequalification processes, handling complaints, conducting site visits, overseeing supplier and subcontractor management, managing accreditations, reviewing processes, and coordinating training for site-based operatives. In 2018, she became a quality manager within a newly acquired business, where she expanded her expertise to include standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. She then created, implemented, and managed a new integrated management system.
With qualifications in these standards, Melissa left her previous business and joined ES Steel in September 2022 as the Office Coordinator. In this role, she oversees similar tasks as before but with a greater focus on working closer to her family. Since joining ES Steel, Melissa completed her NEBOSH General Certificate in October 2023 and is now over halfway through completing a Level 5 Diploma through the Institute of Supply Chain Management. This diploma focuses on enhancing her knowledge of Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and Operations Management. She plans to further her training to become a Quality Practitioner and complete her Lead Auditor qualifications.
Looking forward, Melissa is excited to move more into project management compliance at ES Steel, where she believes her expertise will truly shine. The most rewarding project she has worked on has been enhancing in-house capabilities, particularly developing a training platform for simple awareness training. She finds it fulfilling to contribute to learning and development, ensuring that all site team members are fully equipped and skilled to meet the expectations of their roles without compromising safety.
